Yup, you're right - the Export to PDF menu entry is new. I'd forgotten that, but there has been a way to do it since the GIMP 2.4 series at least.

Make sure you have the cups-pdf package installed, then print the document using the CUPS PDF printer that adds to the printer list..

Thanks again for all the handholding, Tim. I've installed cups-pdf and will take another run at it today. My blood pressure was climbing last night as it seemed I was being thwarted at every turn.

That said, I can't believe this is something that needs to be that complicated. Surely there's a pointy-clickity GUI tool that can handle this simple task. They abound in Windows.

I saw a gimp book at the store once. A Howto and Tricks, etc. It was more than a thousand pages.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

True. But it was impressive. It was over an inch-and-a-half thick.

I'm looking for an easier, softer way. There has got to be a better way to do this.

And I've gotten some good leads, too. Will post back if any of them pan out.

@mark,

Scan your signature into a png and a jpg file.
In LibreOffice Draw, open the pdf to which
you want to add your signature.
[Insert the png with your sig.]
Resize your signature to fit the document.

Export the document as a new pdf with your signature.

Regards.

Damn, that sounded exactly like what I wanted to do. But no go -- the pdf is totally scrambled in LO Darw, at least the version I have on this M11 install.

Could be.
I'm using LO-4.2.5.

I know it works in LO-4.x.x
Are there any backports still working for Squeeze?
Maybe a later version.
I think I've been doing this since 4.0 or so.
Perhaps as early as 3.5.x.
I'll spelunk a bit and see if I can find out.

Try here, if you wish:
http://downloadarchive.documentfoundati ... 6.7.2/deb/
This is the last of the 3.6 line.

If that does not work, try the 4.1.6 version:
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/lib ... lang=en-US
I know it works with LO-4.16 (best choice),
and I think I started doing that with 3.5.x,
but I'm not sure --it's been a while.

Strange. Scrambled in LO Draw 4.1.5.3 in SolydK.

There's epic PEBKAC going on here it seems.
