From that video, one can easily detect how antiX and MX (to a much greater degree) have continued what WW/MEPIS started back then.
Then, very few distros had custom tools, were easy to install and use and offered so much flexibility. Ubuntu had only just begun and was no where near as good as MEPIS.

I really enjoyed Mepis-2003 and the following until the announcement to change to using Ubuntu base.
There must have been reason in what I perceived as madness. Probably attracted more users than left because of it.
Returned to the Mepis forum in 2008 and again in 2014 looking for the old Mepis goodness and found it in MX-14. It just worked OOTB, and like fine wine has only improved with age. I am thankful and grateful to all those who have contributed in the design, building and direction of MX Linux.

Oh, I remember those times, at that time Debian didn't have their xxxxxxx straight, nowadays (because of Ubuntu pressure) they release more often and more predictable, at that time it was very uncertain when the would release something, and they were like "use Debian Testing if you want something new" but Testing was breaking stuff pretty regularly, obviously Warren could not base a user distro on such a base if he wanted to provide similar stuff as Ubuntu. But also switching to Ubuntu made a lot of problems, I remember Warren saying something along the lines of "these people don't know what they are doing, from one release to another you need to build anything anew"

Warren did not stay with Ubuntu for very long as I recall. It was Mepis 6.0 and as I recall the next version went back to Debian, if memory serves right.

My memory says 6.5 was Ubuntu as well as 6.0.
P.S. Posting now from M7: M7 is debian.
But M6.5 sources.list confirms M6.5 was ubuntu

Yes, because that was my first working and installed Linux distro.
