I just saw this old Linux magazine post about Friendica: http://www.linux-magazine.com/Online/Fe ... -Friendica
Apparently it is now 9 years old. Anybody familiar with it? What do you think about it?
Most of my family is on Facebook. I am getting tired of the heavy-handed way it is run.
Is anyone using Friendica?

Re: Is anyone using Friendica?
The oldest and largest of those Federated platforms is Diaspora, which I was on for about three years before it (and Friendica, Social Home, Red Matrix, etc) deteriorated into a digital ghetto. It's not worth the trouble anymore.
Re: Is anyone using Friendica?
Thanks for the reply. I knew that some of these are not good. I just am not familiar with them and wondered what others thoughts were.
I have a cousin that warned me about social networks years ago. I only came back to Facebook after getting off of there for awhile because some of my relatives are getting along in years and the only place I can find out how they are is on Facebook.
Thanks again.

Re: Is anyone using Friendica?
Happy to help! The only decent one is Mastodon (and MX-Linux is there too!), which is kinda sorta like Twitter, only lots better. But the "macroblogging" sites like Friendica and Diaspora have been so co-opted by extremists ("left" and "right"), porn addicts, and conspiracy theorists that good "normal" folks are sick of it and abandoning the platforms.
It's kinda sad, too, because the idea is a really good one! But it's implementation SUCKS.
