A word about Linux supported HP printers

A word about Linux supported HP printers

Hi I just wanted to share this with ya'll. If you're having trouble with support and/or issues for your printer, whether it be a Brother, Canon, Epson, Kodak etc, then consider investing in an HP printer instead. HP has Linux support for over 2,000 printers and has the HPLIP drivers/software for Linux, which most distros include HPLIP by default nowadays. Although in most cases the default HPLIP software is an older version. Older HP printers would probably work fine with the default HPLIP software in the Debian repos but for newer HP printer models you would need the newer version which can be found in the MX Test Repos along with the GUI. I recommend installing the GUI. It makes printing jobs much easier. Here's a link to the list of Linux compatible printers for 2019.

Note: you don't have to download the HPLIP from that site. The older version for older printers can be found in the stable repos and the newer version in the MX Test Repos.

I struggled for the longest with various printers and always ran into an issue and since I've made the switch to HP it's been a breeze with no issues at all. So I highly recommend investing in an Linux supported HP printer if you're tired of troubleshooting and workarounds. Just trying to help. Good luck!

I used that last link to find my current printer back when the old HP died. :)

Cool right on! I was looking at a printer for sale on the Facebook marketplace and I checked the HP Linux supported printers list first and it was supported so I bought it! The lady I got it from bought it brand new and only used it a couple times and it had been sitting on her desk ever since so for $20 I got a good deal!
