Debian 10 new look and feel

I download and installed the latest live DVD (gnome), got surprised by the new look. Previous versions since beginning, has kept me off. But this I will keep until MX 19 is released. The DVD boots with splash screen (sounds like wrong iso), and login to a polished environment. Last surprise, Calamares did the install, didn't expect this installer. Did good job.

In my opinion, congratulation, this is a wonderful development, version release.

Well my experience was different than yours. I installed the non-free version with the firmware and I got the same old installer. I always install KDE with Debian. I think my computer must have not had enough ram. I read in the instructions that it would default to the old installer if there was not enough ram. I don't remember the ram requirement but I have less than 4GB of ram on that box. KDE didn't seem to be changed much but I am running Adrian's MX/KDE, the one based on MX 17, on my dining room computer. Not much difference. Still very predictable install and no problems.

If I weren't so wrapped up in building my bspwm setup I'd give the new Debian a real run also. I did try a quick install of Debian xfce 10 on VBox. It was smooth.

The traditional installer is available from the boot menu but the live system uses Calamares, the old live installer used to cause some problems so they switched.

EDIT: I don't like the splash screen though, had to purge plymouth.

The traditional installer borked on me from the initial Live Boot screen. I was only able to install using calamares from within the LiveIso.

If you want to use the traditional installer then download the netinstall ISO image, that always seems to work best.

I actually like calamres... my "old" manjaro background, I suppose.

This is what I use because I generally never have any problems with it. Though I use non-free ISO.
Yet I'm glad they went to Calamares for live images for those unused to the old installer.

Most users if then "old or new timer" installing makes them often "unused". Its not something one does every week and become used with it. Debian old installer is not self-explanatory. I liked when Calamares gave a warning that /boot/efi was not yet set. In this case, the old installer would have most likely screw-up my grub.

What I like with this new release, the added feature of friendliness. Where did it come from, not sure. Maybe Debian's own old timers are becoming old. :)
