Re: Opera browser and codecs
As an aside, and for what it is worth, I will never pretend to be particularly 'computer' smart or 'Linux' smart at just 18 months in. That said, I really like Opera as a browser... and I've done a heap of searching to try and find the answer so that Opera is usable for the systems I try/use. I have read pretty much all the MX Linux documentation at some stage or another... but I haven't been to the Wiki or at least that part of it... my bad I guess. MX is an awesome distro... so incredibly stable... the team do an amazing job. For a complete computer novice and Linux newbie, I would probably still recommend Linux Mint as a daily driver. But for someone with a bit more experience/knowledge, and for a somewhat more up-to-date experience, I would always recommend MX Linux. A big thanks to all who have contributed to this post. You are all one of the reasons that MX is such a special experience.

Re: Opera browser and codecs
This seems like it would a nice option to add to MX Codecs, IMO. Would the other browsers like Chromium, Vivaldi, Iridium, Brave, etc., need a different version, or could simlinks be the answer?
Re: Opera browser and codecs
On some distros, predominantly Arch based I think, Opera tends to have its 'own' Opera ffmpeg codecs. Chromium ffmpeg codecs are more often that not available to use with Chromium browser. In openSUSE the chromium ffmpegs also allowed Opera to play video clips. I suspect that they may also work with Vivaldi and perhaps other browsers. These same codecs also helped both Chromium and Opera 'snap' browsers play video in Zorin 15 beta. But, I don't understand Linux well enough to give you an answer, Stevo... other than what I've just said lol.

Re: Opera browser and codecs
Alternatively we place into Populare app's close to the installer of the browser.
Each browser need a different targret folder,
The trick is the current link provided by the Vivaldi folks, so as long as vivaldi's chromium-engine is close to those other,
they link will fetch the correct chromium-ffmpeg deb-package from launchpad/ubuntu.
We could in theory directly fetch from ubuntu, but there are zillions of different versions. That's why the vivialdi link is fairly useful to sort out the version issue, as long as it works .
