MEGA just saved my hind quarters!

#1 Post by Eadwine Rose »

Or.. how important the cloud can be!!

A while ago I decided to clean some stuff from the backup drive. Never used anymore, outdated, you name it. It could be tossed.

I accidentally also tossed the ENTIRE tax folder with everything in there dating back to long ago (2008 is the oldest one I have.. wow haha). But more importantly the taxes I filed, AND the proof of everything, of 2018. And that is a BIG, no HUGE, tax return, so I really need to be able to deliver the proof should I get audited sometime in the future on this one. I HAVE the proof but to scrape everything together a second time is a LOT less easy than when you do it while filing and chucking things in a folder as you're working on it.

I didn't know I had tossed it! I found out because I got the notice in of how much I am getting returned, and wanted to save it in said folder... yeah. No folder.

I looked on Mega which syncs to that drive's folder so nothing in there either of course. Then I was smart enough to check the sync debris.. and sure enough, there it was!!! IMMEDIATELY downloaded the whole thing and put it back where it should be.

Goes to show
1) how important backups are
2) how stinking HANDY this syncdebris feature is, everything that gets removed gets put in there until I manually delete it. Thank GOODNESS for this feature because that just saved me a WHOLE lot of work!

Glad for you. Other lesson: don't store anything but backups in a backup location (i.e. backup partition). Create and keep multiple backup locations for valuable files at least one of which is off site. (Off site is the hardest for most people.)
