I don't see it is compatible with the AM4 socket though ;)
Just one comment - read my signature

Ooopps - I lied. If you read the product description on the page I pointed to, you'll see the AM4 is the last CPU listed in the compatibility list.

Product description says it stands 165mm tall and is 150mm wide. If you like, I can make some measurements to give height above surface of the MBO and post in your "Computer Build" thread.

Yeah, I edited and added that it was. ;)

If you could, then yes. But for now I am sticking with the comment I got there yesterday about the heat and humidity.

The first part of this makes a lot of sense (and I hadn't even thought about it in that way), regardless of whether one is talking about a desktop or laptop computer. The second sentence makes sense in a laptop deployment where airflow is much more restricted than in most desktop situations.

Also in a desktop. I have two drives, a 2.5" 120GB SSD that's my system disk that always runs at around 33 degrees C (which is just above room temperature during the day) and a 3.5" 1GB HDD that I use to store backups, snapshots and for extra file storage that used to always run at 43-45 degrees or more even when not mounted and with a fan blowing directly on it that now runs in the mid- to upper-30s with that same fan now mounted on the side of the case away from the drives. With the CPU's cooler being more efficient the entire computer's cooler. Quieter, too: no more CPU fan roaring away at near top speed (it's an old fan and not that quiet, though it's not bad at all now.)

Actual measurements:
As I have it installed, the height above the MBO: Cooler - 162mm, the fan is another 13mm == 175mm

But, the fan can be remounted a little lower on the radiator, bringing it back in line at 162mm.

I have the fan mounted as a push, that is the fan pushes air across the radiator from the front of the box to the exhaust fan at the back of the box. The fan can be mounted on the other side of the radiator in a pull configuration giving full access to all 4 memory slots - I did that for a while until I figured out I didn't really want or need 32GB of memory and returned 2 of the sticks.

*scratches head* that is the total height right? I'd need the distance above the mobo where it widens out from being all nice and small on the CPU :) Got pics?

You could post this in my thread though.. I don't want to steal more of JayM's..

Oh, I don't mind. I was just jibberjabbering about my computer and the weather and things. I don't even know why I started the thread, now. I must have been in a very good mood that day and felt like saying something.

Speaking of the old computer, it's still running around 4 degrees cooler with the CPU fan correspondingly quieter, doing the same tasks as before. The comparison may not quite be fair though, as our "summer" is pretty much over and the cooler, cloudier "rainy season" weather is here, which means somewhat cooler room temperatures. But just the same, I'm happy with my work and with the fact that the thing still runs after I took it partially apart and put it back together, and seems to run even better.

I've been inspired lately by a guy on YouTube called "Mustie1" who's an older retired fellow somewhere in the northeastern US who likes to go around to garage and yard sales and pick up small gasoline-powered tools and things (such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, small tractors, electrical generators, small motorcycles and mini-bikes) to tinker with and fix up to resell, once he gets them running and working reliably. His videos are kind of long and can be a bit boring, but I find them very relaxing. They've encouraged me to not be afraid to pick up a wrench or a screwdriver and tinker with the things that I know more about, which would mostly be computers.

On that note.. I love watching shows where they get an old banged up car and make it look all nice and shiny again and running nicely. It makes me think of the old days where ex hubs and I took parts from the car apart, cleaned them and put them back in.

We had an engine block on the kitchen floor once. I remember him laughing about that one since there couldn't have been many wives who would allow that to happen
