Spying Browsers?
Re: Spying Browsers?
Due to the error that I get (as per my previous post) when I try to run the irridium-browser installed from the MX repo's, are there any problems or warning that those who know would pass on re. installing the irridium-browser as per this page on their site:
https://iridiumbrowser.de/downloads/debian
Or am I wasting my time, as that is basically what I've already done, & there is a bug that I need to wait on being fixed?

Re: Spying Browsers?
I looked at Brave Browser back in its early days. I posted some questions re. its protection of privacy in a particular area (which of course I've forgotten now) & they wouldn't answer me on that problem. Whereas they were very good at answering everything else. So I dumped Brave, deciding that it was just basically like all the rest, when it comes to privacy. With extremely few exceptions. :(

Re: Spying Browsers?
I don't know what to think of it and their answer. I use Brave only on my android tablet and it's quite good.
In my opinion what is important here is that open source projects can easily be "inspected" and that's a major advantage.

Me too (and on my Android phone). And so far I have been quite happy with it. But after this disclosure, I don't know what to think of it. For the time being I keep them installed for the sole reason that I don't know any longer who/what to trust. I am becoming a cynical and I don't like it.

Re: Spying Browsers?
+1
I actually got it installed but running it produced the same errors as handy is getting. I uninstalled it.

I'm running an older Kernel, but changing the Launcher Menu entry for Iridium Browser tohandy wrote: ↑Sat Feb 09, 2019 9:46 pm Note: If I should have posted this somewhere else, please tell me & I'll cut it & paste it into that section of the forum?

Re: Spying Browsers?
I share your point of view. I try to stay away from "social" networks as long as I don't need them (And I really don't. I never used Facebook nor Twitter).philotux wrote: ↑Mon Feb 11, 2019 5:15 amMe too (and on my Android phone). And so far I have been quite happy with it. The big question is: who can be trust? Brave and Qwant have a partnership agreement (and I trust Qwant - at least for the time being).
Re: Spying Browsers?
That is one reason a VPN is useless, the know its your browser,OS and who knows what more.
Not to say all the spyware on andriod phones, you cant uninstall it and use power.
And this is about browsers but what about IoT that send 24/7/357 your data to many undisclosed recipients.
