Instead of idly wondering, just click the link and read the DW "definition". It's stated right atop the page.

I know I'm old an blind... :lipsrsealed: but even a search for the term "definition" on the page you mentioned provides nothing.

Maybe this: "distros...which are generally considered as most widely-used (directly or indirectly) by Linux users around the world."

To be fair to your eyes, it's a long description:
https://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major
  • "The bewildering choice and the ever increasing number of Linux distributions ... There are no figures to back it up and there are many other distributions that might suit your particular purpose better, but as a general rule, all of these are popular and have very active forums or mailing lists where you can ask questions if you get stuck.

Whatever it means, there will be more people downloading, kicking the tires and learning how to drive it. Unfortunately, many think it is just a cheaper Windows.

Well, their idea of major distribution and mine are much different. But whatever.

DW's definition is of their making and arbitrary. I would not put much stock in it, although others will and will attract users to MX as Richard said.

I had linked rather than scraped-n-pasted here, due to respect for their copyright.
Now that you've pasted it, if I quote the entirety of your post... do they sue you, or me, or bofus (for copyright infringement)?

@skidoo, good point. As our Rules state:
Do not copy and paste entire or even up to half of someone else's words or articles into posts. Post only a few sentences or a paragraph and make sure to include a link back to original words or article. Otherwise it's copyright infringement.
Would you both be so kind as to edit your posts appropriately.
