I guess Windows is going the way of Adobe there (like photoshop, indesign, you name it).

Install all nice software. Don't pay for a new year? Then the installed software will no longer work.

You are of course assuming that Adobe software will work as advertised in the first place.:)
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
Aspire V5-571; CPU Intel I3; 500 GB SSD; Intel 2nd Gen Graphics; 8 GB Ram
Aspire XC-866; i3-9100; UHD 630; 8 GB ram; 1TB HDD

In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Hey Richb,

Since when has Windows been a distro?

If it were a distro it would be available for download on Distro Watch, which it isn't.

WIKI of Distro = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distro

Webopedia description of Distro = https://www.webopedia.com/TERM/D/distro.html

A side note: should Windows users be saying "Come back, Bill...Save us!" ?
We all need to consider that without Windows, we might all still be playing "Mattell Intellivision" and enjoying baseball and football...ha ha ha

Windows, despite getting lots of flack, opened some doors when it launched. But I do wonder if, in an alternate reality, Linux conquered desktop computing and everyone has their own custom distro that runs the world :)

I don't think Linux, or any other OS, for that matter, would have gotten off the ground. Bill Gates moved some huge marketing mountains.

Exactly. Marketing and LOADS of funding.

Atari was WELL on its way back when. With a system that could do things that Windows systems could only dream of. My ex was working on DTP with vectors, moving lines around on the screen, designing things.. I was working on Lotus 123 at the time, smacking my keyboard. But where did Atari lack? Marketing, among other things.

Linux will not take Windows' place, there are simply too many varieties available. It's good to have a choice, yes, but that number of choices limits the chances of something becoming main stream. There was only one Windows, and everyone wanted it. No one was confused, Windows was the same Windows no matter where you looked and that has ensured its success.

"Yeah but wait till there is a scandal!"

Need I point out Facebook? Point made.

Personally.. I don't see a world without Windows. Good thing is I don't see a world without Linux either ;)
