Plasma Mobile

#1 Post by Mauser »

I was thinking of getting an unlocked smartphone which I planning on removing Android and installing a real Linux mobile distro on it that respects my 4th & 5th amendment rights. What do you think of Plasma Mobile and did you have an experience with it? https://www.plasma-mobile.org/
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.

Why don't you go ahead and download neon and run it in a VM for yourself, I'm sure doing that will answer most of your questions. I personally think it is an excellent project but it is very very early software developer code quality, not end user code. If I remember rightly they were talking about this in 2012 and only now in 2018 are we seeing some fruit of their labour's. I only wish the suggested version was not ubuntu-based because I've not been overly impressed with repeated incidences of Ubuntu spyware being uncovered.

I have seen how it is on the video but thanks for the VM recommendation. I wish it wasn't Ubuntu based either. I would hope they ripped out the data collection and Amazon from it like what the Linux Mint developers did. :crossfingers: I guess I will hold off on getting a new unlocked phone until Plasma Mobile has a full final release or I find something to replace Android with that respects my Constitutional rights. Thanks.

Maybe LineageOS is more your style:

Or for even less Google and if you have a supported phone, you could contribute to /e/ development:
