Heheh.. no worries, a walker is something I will never get, simply because it won't support me as well as the underarm crutches do
If my walking worsens I'm afraid it's wheelchair time for me. But for now the walking is still plenty good enough :)

Re: Here is my newly found freedom :)
I meant a scooter with wheels that can unfold into the creepy legs you see in the videos. That way, stairs or rough terrain no longer pose any issue....actually, they already are working on that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giS41utjlbU So the legs could fold under the chassis when not in use, and then the wheels could lock when being used as feet. It even does stunts!Eadwine Rose wrote: ↑Sun Jul 08, 2018 3:20 pm Heheh.. no worries, a walker is something I will never get, simply because it won't support me as well as the underarm crutches do

@ Stevo, that thing on youtube looks scary. Wonder how they keep it from falling over? A gyro?
One the wheelchair topic, one of my work colleagues had a powered wheelchair, two large wheels, with separate motors so that it could turn very sharply, and pairs of smaller wheels fore and aft to stop it tipping. Was able to use it inside at work or home, but could not climb steps.

Oh wow Stevo, that's awesome hahaha.
Gordon: I am pretty sure there are those in the group that have this wheelchair. I have seen quite the variety in electric wheelchairs roll by. :)

Re: Here is my newly found freedom :)
No ramp was conquered. The therapist took a look at it and told me to not venture it, it would most likely be too tight. The first turn, yes, but the second one would pose probs.
Before she arrived I spoke with someone who was cleaning the stairs, and he told me about another entrance which.. we (therapist and I) checked it out.. is perfect. He also said that scooters have tried this ramp here, and you have to be VERY skilled to get through that thing. There have been people who have gotten stuck there alright. They should really put some signs up pointing to the other entrance. At least now I know!

I gave the app a chance and it works like a charm. It's a battery hog though, but yes, it works like a peach, thank you!Kulmbacher wrote: ↑Sun Jul 08, 2018 7:37 am Eadwine Rose, your phone is Android based?
Yes, then give Osmand a chance.
OSM based, updated more than all others .
Take the Fdroid Version "Osmand~" , itś like osmand+ , but without payment and no restrictions of free version.
Lot of features, not so easy in the first moment, like MX for me ;-)
So Zebra will always find the right way ;-)

easy map download at home, maybe zebra starts worldwide travelling ;-)
http://download.osmand.net/rawindexes/
Battery consumption: Try to disable some of the masses of features, a lot of places to do that

Re: Here is my newly found freedom :)
Yeah, I have set it up to the bare minimum, but still. No biggie though, I ordered the Mio thingie, which should work just as well and saves my phone's battery consumption
But this is a great backup alright!

Re: Here is my newly found freedom :)
Went on a little trip with the Mio. It works perfectly. :) I used the "surprise me" feature. Basically went where I have never been before. Well doable route too, save for two points. One turned out to no longer be a road but a sand path shaped like so: ^, the other road was filled with gravel.
So.. to both I said nope, nuh uh. The Mio first starts whining that I need to turn around, and when I keep going it gives up and starts calculating a new one in order to meet up with the route again further on. Quite nifty, and quite TomTom like.
You can see it is perfectly workable on the scooter.
Of course this is in the shade of some trees. I did order some new screen protectors from Amazon which are especially designed for the Mio so should fit without cutting (the one that is on here is a TomTom protector cut to shape, roughly), and are suitable in very light intense areas, like straight sun and such. Very curious how that is going to work out.
Also.. once you have been spoiled with a good quality camera, no camera on a cell phone is going to get even close to it. However I forgot the camera so I had to make do with the cell of course And as you can see in the pictures, things are NOT entirely flat around here ;)
Also bought a cap this morning. PERFECT! No need for sunglasses anymore, very nice and relaxing as there is less strain on the eyes.
