Old Unix Videos

#1 Post by duane »

I ran across this old video about UNIX from Bell Labs.
I was struck by how articulate these guys were.
Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc4ROCJYbm0

Thanks for the link. This was one of the reasons why I changed to Linux in 1996. The software was coded into small modules, which are easy to fix/update at anytime ( compared to Window's monolithic codes) was/is an inspiring concept. And UNIX/Linux did it.

That was nice to see. Putting faces to the pioneers. Rightly proud of what they created and the concepts that still work today. (Can't forgive them for spreading C in the world however. :p )

Fascinating. Brings back memories when my folks purchased a computer that year and it was my graduation year from Automotive H.S. I couldn't understand how to use it. What ever I typed always returned syntax error until I typed some foul language on it which worked as it returned something else but I don't recall what, but at least it worked. LOL. It was that experience that made me hate the command line interface as I still do today as I could never understand it. That experience scared me away from computers till the year 2000 which thankfully the G.U.I. was created years prior. This video does show me about why the command line is used and without it the G.U.I. wouldn't have ever been possible. I also liked this video as if it wasn't for UNIX there would be no Linux.
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.
