I saw comments on the Windows 10 reddit that the update changed security settings for some people among other settings. I had Win10 on 2 computers until the Spring updates slowed down the machines making them hot, unusable messes on Windows. Now both are fully Linux. These huge twice a year updates on Windows are a disaster, and even the smaller patches are trouble for some people.j2mcgreg wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2018 3:29 pm Earlier this month Microsoft issued a huge update to Win 10 that among other things pooched the built in email client Win 10 Mail. The solution is to go to Settings – Privacy – Email and turn on ‘Allow other apps to access email’, reboot, and voila! It works again. Now, this setting is one of the ones that is recommended that should be turned off in order to hinder Microsoft’s attempts to spy on its end users. So the average Joe has to agree to Microsoft’s intrusiveness in order to receive email. How this fits in with any definition (except Microsoft’s) of privacy is truly ironic.
This is just the newest addition to my list of things I hate about Microsoft.

security settings chnages on windows updates is nothing new. I need to reset the fileshare properties on the media PC every so often.
so far the only thing that has been nuked by the big update is I needed to reinstall the printer drivers on my wife's yoga.

I'm so very glad I stopped using Windoze with the advent of Win 7! Quite why people still dual boot with it is a complete mystery to me.

Because they use software that they need that only runs in Windows. And no VB for me is not an option, I'd much rather run it natively since some software (like I found with TomTom's Mydrive) doesn't really like being run in a VB.turtlebay777 wrote: ↑Mon May 28, 2018 6:40 pm I'm so very glad I stopped using Windoze with the advent of Win 7! Mystery solved :)

Yeah - - most folks are starting to adapt to the quirks of win-10,
but, it's still those, now mandatory updates that are the real PiTA.
it does seem that folks have now adapted to the Tiles & Modified Start Menu,
and can live with all the advertising that plagues this windows system,
- but, as always, those quirks do eventually - get to them - - it's just a matter of time, really.

Re: Adventures With Windows 10
I must say that those tiles and blahblah... nope it is not getting to me. I have used it way back when it first came out, my neighbor had win10, and I hated it.
I have used it again while on my Adobe Indesign and Photoshop courses, and I found it much easier to navigate this time around and actually though it kinda cool.
So... don't expect all of them to suddenly turn to linux. I would want to bet that there are those that MIGHT go the other way in fact! But yeah, around times of these update bork-ups... different situation altogether.

There already are. And they aren't worth a thing because companies ask for Adobe specifically

Re: Adventures With Windows 10
Today I just made a decision for my HP Pavilion x360 11-n011LA notebook that came with W8.1 x64 and is updated to W10 1804 and dual-boot with MX 17.1
Although I need some programs of my profession that only run on Windows, I am going to place them in VirtualBox with W7 and then I will remove the Windows from my HP and I will leave MX alone.
Why do I do it? I just really like the stability and speed with which MX works, in return Windows is going very slowly and updates are not a big deal. Why do I want a dual-boot if I can do everything with MX? I will use VirtualBox to run Windows programs that have no substitute in GNU / Linux and thus have everything available.
The only thing I will miss are two things: the bluetooth that does not detect it MX (in Windows it also failed) and the tablet mode that I did not find the controllers that perform that function.

No todos ignoramos las mismas cosas.
