Re: The latest bad news.
This is going to get interesting when everyone's machines are 30% slower and a lot of drivers don't work.

Re: The latest bad news.
30% is a LOT. I suspect many people would be avoiding the last upgrade and say "screw security".
Re: The latest bad news.
Wow - sure picked a bad time to change my preference from AMD to Intel before buying my last 3 pc's a couple years ago...

A first range of tests by Phoronix
We will have to wait a bit before evaluating correctly the situation. It seems it will be very usage dependant

Re: The latest bad news.
I have one AMD box in my stash. Oddly, it is also the machine running MX.

Re: The latest bad news.
My old AMD laptop has terrible battery life and runs really hot even doing simple stuff like browsing the web and working on documents. Even on MX15/16.
I can't say I'm gonna run back to it with open arms, especially with my non-intensive usage.

Did you try to disassemble your laptop, clean it up and, above all, change the heat paste. I just made it for two laptops and I gained between 20 and 30°C (54°F)asqwerth wrote:My old AMD laptop has terrible battery life and runs really hot even doing simple stuff like browsing the web and working on documents. I'm quite ignorant about hardware, I confess. I thought heat paste was something only gamers and people who really pushed their processors to the limit considered changing.
As for opening up my laptop, I did it recently because I had to remove the hard drive. It seemed pretty clean on the inside. What am I supposed to clean?
