[solved] blender and proprietary amd/ati graphics driver

#1 Post by nubipengen »

hello everybody,

i just downloaded and tested MX17 64-bit live iso today.
it looks complete, especially the applications in the System and Settings menus.

however, i notice that there is no AMD/ATI graphics driver installer.
blender in the repository is not the newest release either, which is currently r2.79.

i am wondering how to install those additional packages; AMD/ATI graphics driver and blender 2.79 on MX17.

the hardware specifications :
cpu : amd phenom II X4 955 3.2 ghz
gpu : amd/ati radeon HD 5670
ram : 8 gbytes

thanks for your insights.

There is not a propretiery amd driver anymore. Amd now uses and open source driver which is already included. (amdgpu)

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

That version of blender is only available in Sid, so you would need to make a package request so the packagers can see if it can be backported.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

No, no, no.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. We have a forum for packaging requests in the Development section of the Forum. But I see that the packagers are already looking at it:

viewtopic.php?f=57&p=430004#p430004

So just wait a bit and watch that forum.

After you've tested this version for a while and if you think it's stable and working well, please update us in this thread so the Dev Team knows it can be moved from Test Repo to Main repo.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
