Print manager missing from KDE 4.8.4

#1 Post by eemaestro » Fri Jun 27, 2014 9:04 am

What happened to printer manager (not printer configuration) in MEPIS 12?
In MEPIS 8 it gave me the ability to delete print jobs before they were printed,
and to query the print jobs queue..
Now, I poked around in the MEPIS 12 GUI and couldn't find it.

I've always used CUPS for that. I don't remember seeing printer manager in Mepis 8.

Is the system-config-printer-kde package installed?

You need to install "printer-applet" with synaptic, then add it to the panel.

Code: Select all

$dpkg --get-selections | grep -i system-config-printer-kde
system-config-printer-kde install
It appears I have the package, eh?

You do.

In that case install the "printer-applet" package that Danum mentioned.

Okay, I went into Synaptic and clicked on "Not installed" list of packages. I couldn't find the first package Danum mentioned. So I clicked on the "Installed" list of packages. I saw it there. But not the second package. So I will install the second package Danum mentioned and then restart KDE.

I don't think you add the printer-applet to the panel. It's in the system tray. You can hide it or make it visible. If auto, it pops up when you print something.

You didn't slow down because you're old; you're old because you slowed down.

I added the second package Danum listed, using synaptic. Then I logged out and logged back in.
With the printer powered OFF, I printed a document from LibreOfficeWriter. Nothing popped up on the screen. After a minute, I powered the printer ON. The document printed flawlessly. Do I need to cold-reboot my computer from the powered OFF state?
Not sure what this "sytem tray" you mention is, Joany. Is it the GUI that pops up when I click the MEPIS icon on the KDE panel and then click "System Settings".

It's the area at the lower right where the clock, clipboard, and such things appear.
