Stuck with gimp

#1 Post by eemaestro » Thu Apr 06, 2017 8:31 pm

Hoping this is the right place for a GIMP question....
Today I tried to use GNU Image Manipulation Program 2.82 to change the background color of an image file. Here is the video I followed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbCnn3Q7PZA
I managed to do everything up to 2:22 in the video in gimp. Right when the lady says "I choose the color from red to blue" in describing changing the background color. I could NOT find the color palette picker shown in the video. Anybody know how to get this color palette picker panel? Or of a better tutorial for using a linux program to change the background color of an image?

The color palette is in the Toolbox options and is the two overlapping rectangles. If you click on the upper one the color pallete will open. The Toolbox is opened from the Window Menu > Toolbox. You may have to click on the left edge of the toolbox and drag to the right to widen it and see the overlapping rectangles.

And there are other programs that are easier to use for this, pinta for instance.

Which would you recommend
* continue w/ gimp following the video tutorial, or
* do it with pinta following this tutorial https://www.howtoforge.com/editing-images-with-pinta ?
Which would be faster, easier, quicker ?

Never used Pinta so I cannot say. Gimp is very powerful and I am used to it, but must admit takes a long time to master that power.
