MX-16's public key is missing [Solved]

#1 Postby X.LINK » Sat Apr 01, 2017 12:10 pm

Edit: Solved

For people -and lazy readers !- that can't find MX-16/MX-15 Community Repository's public gpg key, do the two following commands as root:

# gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 14E225A0
# gpg --armor --export 14E225A0 | apt-key add -

You can then apt-get update or whatever you may use.

Original message:

Hi,

I'm trying to use MX-16's Stable Community Repository, unfortunately the "MX-15/MX-16" 's public key (http://teharris.net/mx15repo.asc) is unavailable to download.

Hostmonster server says "404 Error File Not Found".

Can you reupload the key please ? :frown:

Have you try "Apt Key GPG" in the Software section of MX Tools to see if that can also fix the key problem?

I can't use any MX related solutions you both said since I'm using a standard Debian distribution.

Here's some instructions from the old MEPIS wiki on how to download the key from one of the keyservers and install it:
http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Public_key_not_available_error

Replace the instances of "<pubkey>" with "14E225A0" (without the quotes).

Sorry about that. Don't know how it disappeared, but it has been re-exported & uploaded.

I just tried using the MX-16 64-Bit December 2016 original release, running it live and "installing" gnome-disk-utility for preparing the HDD on a friend's machine. Synaptic keeps telling me that three keys are expired, so I can't "install" the package.

I remember having had the problem before and finding some old MEPIS or antiX or MX-15 link with three keys (I guess from anticapitalista, from kmathern and from Stevo), importing these, and everything was fine. I tried to find the site again but I couldn't.

While fixing this on a different (third) machine before, I had found what seemed to me like an excellent short clean solution in some super long thread in this forum but it is gone since this forum has crashed.

I repeatedly imported all kinds of keys suggested in different places in the antiX, MX-15, MX-16 and MEPIS community and wiki pages, but to no avail.

About all the solutions described on this forum, I am not sure about which of the methods proposed so far are safe. E.g. doing an unauthenticated update, as frequently proposed, doesn't feel like the best idea. Downloading a .deb file via browser doesn't seem extremely safe to me either. I think this just turns your system from a formerly safe system to a possibly unsafe system. Maybe I'm completely wrong here. Please tell me.

And, yes, I've run "MX Check Apt GPG" dozens of times, and, yes, I have refreshed Synaptic dozens of times, and, yes, I tried different servers  .

Btw. the above-mentioned syntax only gets me a write error / broken pipe.

Greetings, Joe

Hi all. I am looking for the MX-17 public key, so I can use the MX-repo on a Linux Mint machine (it's not an option for me to install MX on that machine now). Thanks in advance!
