Mirror Synching

#1 Post by Gordon Cooper » Tue Mar 01, 2016 4:07 pm

In the Wine staging thread, kmathern commented about possible synch faults in the NZ mirror. Today the Apt Notifier advised of four updates, including Youtube-dl-2016.02.27 but when I attempted to upgrade, received an error pop-up saying that the Youtube-dl was not available. So, opened Synaptic and Reloaded both NZ main and test repos. The Youtube-dl-2016.02.27 was now available. My understanding is/was that anything advised in the APT Notifier is in main. Is that correct?

I don't think either of the NZ mx mirrors are synching correctly

I have both the main.mepis-deb.org mx mirrors and the NZ mx mirrors enabled in my /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mx.list file

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mx.list
# Mepis Community Main and Test Repos
deb http://main.mepis-deb.org/mx/repo/ mx15 main non-free
deb http://main.mepis-deb.org/mx/testrepo/ mx15 test
deb http://mx.debian.nz/mx/repo/ mx15 main non-free
deb http://mx.debian.nz/mx/testrepo/ mx15 test

The apt-cache command is showing that youtube-dl 2016.02.27-1 is only available from the main repo of the main.mepis-deb.org mx mirror,
the NZ mirror has 1:2016.02.04-1 and 1:2016.01.15-1 versions.

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache madison youtube-dl
youtube-dl | 1:2016.02.27-1mx150+1 | http://main.mepis-deb.org/mx/repo/ mx15/main amd64 Packages
youtube-dl | 1:2016.02.22-1mx150+1 | http://main.mepis-deb.org/mx/testrepo/ mx15/test amd64 Packages
youtube-dl | 1:2016.02.04-1mx150+1 | http://mx.debian.nz/mx/repo/ mx15/main amd64 Packages
youtube-dl | 1:2016.01.15-1mx150+1 | http://mx.debian.nz/mx/testrepo/ mx15/test amd64 Packages
youtube-dl | 2015.11.27.1-1~bpo8+1 | http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie-backports/main amd64 Packages
youtube-dl | 2014.08.05-1+deb8u1 | http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main amd64 Packages
I see the same if I go to them in the browser for the NZ mirror

apt-notifier will update any revised packages that are installed from any of the active repositories. So if testing is active it will offer to update the revised packages there as well. If that is what you are asking.

Thanks Rich. You have answered my question. In this case testing was not active so the Apt Notifier should have only have advised of
updates in main. However, the advised Youtube update was not there until I had reloaded Synaptic.

Is it possible you activated the testing repo but had not updated the repo list? Both need to be done in order for package updates to appear from a repo previously unactivated.

The latest version youtube-dl package isn't in the testrepo, it's in the main repo.

Mike reported that the Youtube update was available - and he did not say it was in testing. So when I saw it in the notifier, assumed that
it was in main, but got a "not available' reponse. So, I activated testing, reloaded and there was the upgrade. I believe that the NZ repos
are not synching properly as has been reported by Kent, but if they are not synching, and that Youtube upgrade was not in main, why did the Apt Notifier say that it was? :confused::confused:

Edit.
Have now read Kent latest, the upgrade was in main. But apparently not here in NZ until I had manually reloaded Synaptic

I "think" I got youtube-dl (2016.02.27) from main and youtube-dl-gui (0.3.8+gitaa74cc2-1mx150+1) from testing.

No, just saying where
each one was located (which repo) over

there .. eventually. GL with it Gordon. :smile:
