Request: ChessX

#1 Post by app4soft »

Package: chessx
Version(s): 1.4.6 (release); git (testing) ChessX is an Open Source chess database. With ChessX you can operate on your collection of chess games in many ways: browse, edit, add, organize, analyze, etc.
ChessX is cross-platform. It works on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Did you check the repos?

I have chessx installed. in MX 17 and 18. I am at work now, so I can't see what version it is, but it works better than scid.

The old scid worked in MX16, but the stretch version crashes when using the opening tree window, some kind of tk error.

I have 1.4.0.0 installed.
So there is a newer version.
Looks like bug fixes and the ability to draw on the board... see below

Bugfix Release 1.4.6

Version 1.4.4 contained two nasty bugs which would crash ChessX. Please update to the new release to avoid loss of data.

ChessX 1.4.4 "Picasso" released

Picasso is the latest release of ChessX. There are new features which may help to teach chess to children - paint critical fields and draw arrows with the mouse without additional use of the keyboard. And don't forget to show the power of pieces with the help of the move indicator.
In addition, a few bugs were to be fixed: especially, Chess960 was broken in some cases (castling!).

Got it 1.4.6 from Buster done for MX 17 testing, but apparently it needs a newer Qt 5 than Jessie's 5.3.2, so no MX 15 packages. I also changed the stockfish "engine" from a recommended package to a hard depends to make sure it gets installed.

Stevo, wow that was fast...thanks.

I downloaded from your link, and unzipped, then installed the appropriate deb (amd 64 bit on this MX 18 beta1).

All went normally, and the new 1.4.6 appears in the game section of the applications. I clicked on it and it seems to run normally as the 1.4.0 when I opened up a database of games.

I enabled the MX test repo, but did not see it in there.

Thanks

Thanks
chessX is in the test repo now. Check this by opening MX Package Installer (mxpi) and select the MX Test Repo tab. Enter chessX in the search field there.
