package request: recent wireless-regdb regulatory database
package request: recent wireless-regdb regulatory database
Package request to include latest wireless-regdb regulatory database.
The recent wireless-regdb will be loaded by kernel during boot.
The wireless regdb is used to instruct wifi-devices about allowed channels/frequencies and allowed wifi-signal-power.
The wireless-regdb provided by Debian is outdated (2016.06.10-1) and does not include the new binary format of the wireless-regdb which is needed to get loaded by the kernel. See bug-report: "wireless-regdb: Missing support for kernel direct loading"
Kernel.org WIki: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/dev ... less-regdb
Git: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... -regdb.git
Mirror: https://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/pub/sof ... less-regdb
Installation/packaging info:
Download, verify the pgp/gnupg-signature, extract
and put both regulatory.db and signature regulatory.db.p7s to /lib/firmware
Advantage:
- kernel will load regdb without error messages due to missing regdb during boot.
- no need crda

Re: package request: recent wireless-regdb regulatory database
I missed that--I'll try the newer version in Ubuntu as a template for the latest 2018.10.24 release. Debian still has the 2016 version.
Re: package request: recent wireless-regdb regulatory database
2018.10.24 headed to the test repos. Since it's newer than Buster's ATM, that one that we might have to also build for MX 19.
Re: package request: recent wireless-regdb regulatory database
Can we have an update of wireless-regdb.
Buster-backports does provide wireless-regdb 2020.04.29-2~bpo10+1
latest on https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... -regdb.git is wireless-regdb-master-2020-11-20.
Also we might consider to move at least the current one 2019.06.03-1~mx19+12019.06.03-1~mx19+1
to main. In addition we might consider to get those installed by default, to avoid kernel load complains
like this:
regulatory.db wifi settings are more relevant to non-US users.

Sending 2020.11.20 to the test repos, or you can get it here earlier (ignore the included obs-studio): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Kc5BeW ... sp=sharing
