Could you add Telegram to the repo, please? I tried to install it but I can only run it with sudo.

It's available for MX-16.x at least:

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy telegram
telegram:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 0.9.44-0mx150+1
  Version table:
     0.9.44-0mx150+1 0
        500 http://mxrepo.com/mx/testrepo/ mx15/test amd64 Packages
It's in Debian Stretch-Backports so you should be able to get it for MX-17 as well using Package Installer.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Found it. Apparently I wasn't checking the right repo :D

Later edit: you should upgrade it more often though. I am now downloading hundreds of megabytes of updates since it is not even on version 1 in the repo (don't wanna think what will happen next year when I'll buy a new computer)

I'll take a look at seeing if the newer version in Stretch-backports will build in MX 15/16.

Edit...no, it needs a newer Qt 5 than 15/16 has, but I ported it over to the MX 17 repo.

Thanks again. I just went back to see the status of it. Anyway, another curiosity of mine: will LibreOffice be updated to at least version 5.3 for MX 16? I'd really love to get that notebook bar on it

You know you can do it yourself pretty easily:
  • go to the download site
  • Select the version you want (e.g., x64 deb) and click to download
  • when it has finished, open the Downloads folder and right-click the downloaded file > extract here
  • enter the folder that is extracted, the right-click the DEBS folder > open terminal here
  • enter the command

    Code: Select all

    dpkg -i *.deb
  • when it has finished, try to launch--may have to logout/login first
I do this all the time b/c I like and need the most recent stable version for business work.

@ catalinux
You can always download LibreOffice AppImages, they work quite well on MX16.1.

Even try the latest LibreOffice daily 6.1.0.0 alpha0 @ http://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/in ... y-version/

This is the guy behind those AppImages:

I got the deb version and managed to get it working. As for Telegram, I signed myself out from my phone, uninstalled the old version from the repo, redownloaded the archive from their official website but this time I started Telegram right after unpacking. Then I did all that /opt moving, symlinking and I got th latest version working without using sudo in the terminal.

I might upgrade to MX 17 soon though.
Thank you all for your help. keep up the good work! cheers!
