Request of vlc-libde265

#1 Post by radissthor »

vlc-libde265

Plugins for VLC 2.x to support HEVC decoding using libde265. For VLC versions below 2.1, a modified MKV demuxer is included which has support for HEVC streams. For VLC versions below 2.2, modified MPEG-TS and MP4 demuxers are included which have support for HEVC streams.
Any chance to get this codec backported to Mepis?

Thanks in advance,

It's been in the M12 test repo since February...http://forum.mepiscommunity.org/viewtop ... 88&t=37725

No response from anyone, so it's still in testing. :frown:

Don't know if VLC 2.2.1 in MX 15 supports hevc natively, I think it does.

Tested, yes it does.

I remember when this issue came up--I installed mpv, which plays hevc perfectly. I, too, am using M12.

Yes, our updated mplayer can also handle playback nicely--I think x265 and ffmpeg are the only things we have that can transcode to it--maybe the avconv in libav-tools 11.4 can handle it.

I enabled the test repos and tried to install it, but everytime I tried, I got the broken packages message. This is in Mepis12.

EDIT: I also tried installing the mvp and mplayer and was also greeted by the broken packages. Before selecting packages for installation the reload button works OK, and I was able to to an upgrade a few packages successfully. I was also able to install another package -aeolus, which also had some dependencies- successfully. So the problem seems, so far, so be circumscribed to the vlc codec, mplayer and mpv player. I wonder what they all have in common....=/

I'm running MEPIS 12 64bit, and I just installed libde265 and vlc-plugin-libde265 from the test repo using Synaptic. No issues. My installed vlc is version 2.1.5-1mcr120+1

Do you have Synaptic's Distribution preferences set to prefer packages from mepis ?
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

Normally I have it set for 'prefer highest version' but when searching from packages from the test repos I change that option to prefer from Mepis before reloading.

Then we need some more info to find out what's blocking installation for you
Could you open a terminal, su to root, and run

Code: Select all

aptitude why-not vlc-plugin-libde265
If there's a reason it can't be installed, this will show you. If it can't find a reason then see if aptitude will actually install it with

Code: Select all

aptitude install -t mepis vlc-plugin-libde265
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB
