Let's leave it out of B2. We need to go through it carefully and Utopia is interested in its new customization options.
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

We can't leave it out once it is in as it gets automatically installed. Unless we uninstall it, comment out the mepis12cr repo and then reinstall from wheezy.

It seems that the error might not effect anything. I'm checking.

It seems to be working ok. I'll test with a real install and report back.

For me it worked correctly even if it had the wrong theme in the configuration file. It has a complicated interaction with lightdm.
In the old version, the configuration file didn't configure anything.

Did you figure out how to make that box look better? Or anything about it yet? As long as it works for B2, I am content to leave it in and worry about config later.

I'm looking at the source files, and the -ubuntu.conf file is in /debian, plus all the install files that reference it. That means we can simply change it to a -MX14.conf file with appropriate settings, then change the install files to use that file, quickly without needing to patch up the original source code. So this:

Code: Select all

[greeter]
background=/usr/share/backgrounds/warty-final-ubuntu.png
theme-name=Ambiance
icon-theme-name=LoginIcons
font-name=Ubuntu 11
xft-antialias=true
xft-dpi=96
xft-hintstyle=slight
xft-rgba=rgb
show-language-selector=true
Can be changed to MX versions and plugged into the /debian folder.

There's more options in the original file that aren't applied in the ubuntu.conf file...

Any improvements that makes it simple to use are very welcome. What's missing is a box where you can change from Xfce to another DE.
The first version used seemed hopeless, couldn't understand much about how to configure it. Haven't had time to read and understand all the details about the latest, only found out it's installable a day ago.
You're so fast, hope the beta 2 cycle is longer.
And if there is some gtk rc stuff that must be written or changed, I know it's not my strong side.

Was wondering about the greeter.ui that disappeared when upgrading. Found this: The UI is now compiled into the binary to prevent crashes should the UI file not be in /usr/share/......
The only way yo change this now is to patch the source before compiling.

/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm-set-defaults wasn't created when lightdm was installed. At least I don't have it. The command "lightdm-set-defaults" is the way for the user to configure the greeter. Not working now.

I see here that development is up to 1.9.6 for Ubuntu Trusty. I am actually thinking of downgrading to the stable version we had at this point...

The Arch Wiki makes it clear that customization is not an easy thing.
