M12 ksplash mock-up

#1 Post by Utopia » Sat Nov 10, 2012 1:51 pm

Here's a simple mock-up for an M12 ksplash.
M11 used "starting mepis" with a black swirl shadow above of the splash.
The suggestion is to to skip it and use the wallpaper with logo as background. That swirl shadow is a detail to much for this wallpaper in my opinion.
The "starting mepis" is attached too, transparency is substituted with blue for visibility.

I would agree. The wallpaper background is consistent and looks much better to my eye.

Your mockup is very clean and has a great look to it! I think you are on the right track as well. Thanks for sharing.

I prefer the wallpaper and logo as well. Last time, I saw that swirl and figured someone had goofed!

Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Is it possible to have a look at the top splash, with starting text you have at the top in black section?

To use the starting text you have to delete the logo or Mepis is repeated to many times. And it must probably be somewhere close to the center.

I don't think we need the "Starting Mepis" text since the icons appear as KDE is loading. I think that is enough to show the loading progress, just MHO though.

I prefer using the background with logo without the "Starting".
Then it's only the plymouth screen (it has the "press esc" text instead of the logo) and GRUB (because of the black border problem) that differs slightly. It looks very solid if you use the same background throughout instead of switching between different screens.
