substitute migration. replace. inject. can't wait to show Oma.

Here you can post about what you did to get MX to work right with your computer or if hardware worked right out of the box for you. This is for the computers and/or hardware that is normally hard to get working right in Linux or MX.

substitute migration. replace. inject. can't wait to show Oma.

#1 Post by i_ri »

A young man of ten years with notebookpc his grandMother gifted the Vista dell to him. He has used a mac at home and microsoft for schoolwork. We discussed that a currently available microsoft system simply will not install on his device. Twenty minutes later he was anxious to leave with it. He had a game running on MX-16. "Before you go let me show You how to hook up to the internet" says me.
"Oh I know how to do it" he beams.
"Whoa. think about that. on a system you have never seen? linux? Well if it is just a matter of you think you can find the proper icon and do it the same as your computers at home, well good luck then."
He paused with his new MX-16 pc. He said "you showed me how to do it on my windows computer." he clicked the proper icon. he found it. chose it. "what's your password?"
I told him the password.
"Look there it works!" he said. "I can't wait to show this to grandMother." gone.

The usual all upgrades and a new game. finished.

his latest: The young man is mighty proud of the wallaper slideshow of downloaded pictures of silver fox. he now does google hangouuts video chat with his grandMother. his pc has no camera. he talks while seeing her. She is using her smartphone. he figures it out and he has never asked for the administrative password. MX linux is brilliant.

That's one of the best things about MX - and the modified Xfce desktop it uses. Very intuitive, easy for a kid to just "start using" without really having to go to "Linux school" first. The only thing I would change might be the names of some applications. Or at least offer in the menu some sort of description.

For example, "Nomacs? What is that? What does it do?" I may never know, because this kid isn't brave enough with technology to go clicking on stuff I don't recognize.

Other than that I'm loving my new MX!
