polybar installation [Solved]

#1 Post by manyroads »

I have been following numerous installation helps for polybar to no avail. I have followed these and found some bugs in each:

http://github.com/polybar/polybar#building-from-source
https://medium.com/@tatianaensslin/inst ... 4ab6157fb1

I seem to have gotten by the missing dependencies yet still am unable to complete a build. I can't seem to find the actual log either.

Here's what I have:
build-error.txt
TIA! :crossfingers:

It says you're missing xcb-composite. Install libxcb-composite0-dev and try again.

I have some slightly older 3.2.1 package builds here: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... ar/polybar

Polybar's not in the MX repo because nobody's asked for it. The 3.2.1 debian folder can probably be used as a template for the current 3.3.1 package build. Source packages can downloaded from the OBS without an account by clicking the correct two links to get to the repository, but here's a direct link if you don't like Myst: https://download.opensuse.org/repositor ... ebian_9.0/

Thank you very much @Stevo. I'll give this a whirl. I have to say polybar is a challenge for my old brain... ;)

Thank you @male. I have broken the code for polybar and am running my first proto-type.

see the screenshot here: https://ibb.co/LCcMCmK

I will use polybar on my antiX install. The code I'm currently testing follows (feel free to use it, break it or whatever). btw. I will share my 'final' work here and on the antiX forum.

NB: the missing fontawesome characters appear as those annoying little squares in the code below. You'd need to either replace them with a label or text.

Code: Select all

I built the current 3.3.1 release into packages for the test repo and the OBS.

MX 17/18 packages here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1FUrjf ... nMA-jZ9FjH

Thank you @Stevo. Once you get the hang of polybar it is quite useful (not perfect) and also fairly easy to use.
