[SOLVED] Create desktop shortcut

#1 Post by Klaas Vaak »

Is it possible to create a desktop shortcut to e.g. Firefox? If so, how can I do that?

Go to /usr/share/applications and drag the firefox.desktop file to the desktop/pinboard.
Right click on that link to rename, change icon etc

That worked fine. Then I changed windows manager (trying to solve another issue), the desktop icon was gone, so I tried to do the same but now it is rejected: permission denied.
This whole permission business drives me up the wall. I know it is "for my own good", but in many cases it is overdone nonsense.

What confuses you, I think, are the maybe 12 in number, different possibilities of a so called desktop in antiX.(and they all have different options)

If you want to use the above shortcut-trick in antiX you have to chose one with rox, because it will only work with rox-filer.
eg
Rox-icwm
Rox-fluxbox
Rox-jwm

Simply fluxbox for example will not offer desktop shortcuts.

My tip would be for someone who is new to antiX, stick with one desktop , maybe the default(rox-icewm), which maybe is the easiest to handle, until you have gotten to know it very well, and then look first at what the others have to offer.

In conky under date and uptime, there is shown on which desktop you are right now. I can confirm the inxi-error, inxi always shows the one from bootup, if you change desktop during session.

Caprea, once again, I am grateful for your help. I took your advice and changed to rox-icewm, and guess what .... my firefox icon was back  That means I was on rox-icewm at the start.
Anyhow, I will not be making frequent changes because I just want a stable set-up that is minimalist.
