Removing ecryptfs-utils on antiX ???

#1 Post by caprea »

Now this is pretty strange.
On antix 17.2 stable repos
after doing an update and afterwards an dist-upgrade , apt wants to remove ecryptfs-utils

Code: Select all

helga@antix1:~
$ LANG=C sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  ecryptfs-utils libecryptfs1 libtspi1
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
The last thing that was updated was nvidia-legacy-340xx-driver
to 340.107-2 mx17+1

Code: Select all

$ inxi -r

Might be that the new installer doesn't need those, but you can mark those as manually installed to prevent the autoremove.

Maybe, I was disconcerted because removing it caused some trouble during the mx-updates
if you have have the home only encryption

Haven't used data encryption lately,
but I remember I was told to forget about updating
if you want to maintain access to your encrypted data.

This may just be an old history tale,
but it would worry me if my data were encrypted.

Yes, the new installer doesn't depend on ecryptfs-utils anymore.
Is it now save to autoremove it on antiX ?

probably safe on antiX, unless you have used an encyrpted home. You would have to do that manually on antiX though, because the antix version of the installer didn't offer encrypted home.
