samsung galaxy s7 photo transfer - Shotwell no longer works

#1 Post by namida12 »

I lost a phone in Japan this summer, got a replacement and now can not transfer photos from phone to a 64 bit version of antiX 17.2.

Last time I transfered photos using Shotwell was April; 2017. But have 455 photos now and need to back them up to computer.

Can't transfer via Shotwell now, it lists the device but clicking on Samsung I get this statement. (phone seems to be empty. No video/photos to found import)

gMTP - No device attached Detect: no raw device found

airmore? Downloaded and installed on phone, trying to connect (Aim QR code into box from website image) Managed to do the transfer from Phone by connecting phone to wireless home connection and computer connected to wired connection. Airmore wanted all my contacts, sms messages, and another piece of phone info, I denied this info and photos still transferred.

This has Job of transferring photo to computer has been done, but can't believe no one has written a proper GUI application that works well for Samsung phones via USB in Linux. Or is it my lack of knowledge that does not let gMTP perform properly?

I always have to swipe on the notifications area of my phone to turn it to file transfer mode. Otherwise it defaults to "charging" even when plugged in to the pc with usb.

Also sometimes you have to set the phone from camera(PTP) to Media device(MTP)

You could try to do the transfers with spacefm

Is your new phone a newer model than what you had working before?
A lot of times a newer device will need a newer libgphoto2 to support it--Stretch's dates back to 2016.

The question is about transfers not backups.
