Upgrade Antix 15 > 17 and Stretch [SOLVED]
I'm working on an old Advent7108 laptop for someone converting it's old XP to Antix but I've run out of blank CDs and DVDs so had to install Antix 15 x32 (not a 64bit machine) which I had lying around.
Can I upgrade it to the latest Antix 17 and what should I do with the repos which are currently set for Jesse Stable? Can I switch them to Stretch stable?
On my own laptop I use and love MX17 but didn't have a copy of MX x32 on a DVD to try the Advent with.

!st. I would backup my /etc/apt/sources.list.d folder. Making sure all internal files and sections in that folder are kept < just in case >
Then make sure systemd pin text file sytemd00 is present
I included my working active repos in AntiX 17 for reference. I have never tried what you are trying to do. Good luck with it and Happy Da Da Day.
Then make sure systemd pin text file sytemd00 is present
Code: Select all
harry@biker:~
$ cd /etc/apt/preferences.d
harry@biker:/etc/apt/preferences.d
$ ls
00systemd
harry@biker:/etc/apt/preferences.d
$ cat 00systemd
Package: *systemd*
Pin: origin ""
Pin-Priority: -1
harry@biker:/etc/apt/preferences.d
$ cd
harry@biker:~
$ inxi -r

Oh yeah. If you went and customized this install with a different login manager and using some fancy Desktop Environment.
My advice won't work I think. I forget if AntiX 15 has the systemd00 text file and kept systemd out of it's install.
I got a old jessie 14 32 bit install. But I don't even remember if I made my own systemd00 file or my install came with it stock.
I have no wish to update it to stretch since Jessie EOL is

I am sitting here wondering when you installed 15. You did not pick the testing repo option at the install process.
In between stable and unstable. That might have been easier. I don't know though because this is virgin territory for me.

Re: Upgrade Antix 15 > 17 and Stretch [SOLVED, sort of]
Thanks. I'll get some blank discs on Monday and burn a copy of 17. Laptop is too old to boot off an USB stick.

My neighbour lent me one so have installed Antix 17.1 on the PC.
Now to try and sort out the taskbar (Rox-IceWM) , which instead of sitting on the bottom of the screen has installed itself a third of the way up from the bottom!

Nope,whole A17 distro is playing up now, big time. I plugged in a USB flash drive with files to be transferred from my MX computer but the Antix system can't see the files but instead thinks it's a copy of Parted Magic and finds loads of files that don't exist on it! Plugged the USB drive into a Mint PC and it finds the files only that I put on it with MX and nothing about the ghostly Parted Magic! Spooky!
Re: Upgrade Antix 15 > 17 and Stretch [SOLVED]
Have you tried MX15(32bit) on that old thing?
I find that MX1532 works well for wordprocessing, emailing, photo viewing and non-video web browsing on an old eeepc901.

Re: Upgrade Antix 15 > 17 and Stretch [SOLVED]
Did you md5sum check your AntiX iso? I ran AntiX for years on eeepc's before I sold them. I wrote tutorials about that also.
Hint on these small screen laptops. Alt + left click is your friend on open applications. Yu can drag and move them to get to hidden bottom buttons on the screen.
Edit: My usb drives auto mount in spacefm and come up on screen when I install AntiX. Taskbars stay on the bottom also.
I am not sure where you are getting these weird symptoms you describe from?

turtlebay,
I thought you said Antix15, not MX15?
MX15 fully updated is IMO pretty much equal to MX17.
