Kernel 4.15.14

#1 Post by namida12 »

Can the 4.15.14 kernel be installed in a stretch AntiX install? Or has a 14.16 been tested and released?

If that is ok, what repo should I open to download this latest patched kernel? Does not show up in package installer.

There are 4.15.14 and 4.16.5 backported Debian kernels are currently in the MX 17 test repo. They should be safe to install and run on any Stretch-based distro. If you add the repo to install, make sure to disable it afterwards.

Stevo,

Downloaded the 4.15.14 image and headers was there anything else I needed to get?

If you just downloaded the debs, you need to tell us exactly which ones those are, since the Debian kernel ones can get pretty confusing--but you should just need three or four. If you are using the repo with apt, that's all handled for you automatically, and I would suggest that method.

Edit: stretch-backports now also has the 4.16.0-0 (4.16.5) kernel.

@Stevo
4.15.14 and the Nvidia 396.24 I have this running antix works just fine.

Are you saying that the 4.15.14 antiX kernel will work running MX17 with 396.24 as well.?

It should have no issues. I have 390.48 running on a 4.16.5 kernel in MX.

Okey Dokey will give it a try later this afternoon so after rebooting MX it will just boot wih new kernel.

I had to rerun sgfxi after installing the 4.15.14 on antiX so it would reloaded the nvidia config then went straight to the desktop. :-)

Will you have to uninstall the 4.15.0 before rebooting ?

I just install the 4.15.14 kernel but just reboots to 4.15.0-1. This do not happen with antix just rebooted to the new kernel..

Installing a second time has fixed this...[Solved] Arch linux have a great kernel and select program..
