A (niche) AntiX rival?
A (niche) AntiX rival?
Somehow overcoming my anglophonic prejudices re: ESL translated distros, I gave the new (Galicia origin) Minino Artabros 2.2 a try on one of my Atom n270 based netbooks that I have retrofitted with a 120GB SSD. Uses a rudimentary LXDE/Openbox interface. Boot time was an incredible 16 seconds! RAM usage at idle was ~60MB, about the same as AntiX 17.1 with Fluxbox enabled. If their software repositories were in the same league as AntiX, you'd have a near equal rival. Just making y'all aware.

Re: A (niche) AntiX rival?
I noticed that it is based on Debian Wheezy so no surprise at how light it is compared to stretch based ones.
Did you try the full or mini?

I installed the full version. Yes it is based on Wheezy, forgot to mention that. Which is also why the available additional apps is abysmal. But still, it would tend to enable really old machines in the 192-256MB category.

I don't consider it rival but a harmonious and divert entity for very beginners and well suited for masters too.
Its a balanced dish using spices of Debian, antiX and Xfce to taste great for all ages.

Re: A (niche) AntiX rival?
Are they planning a new release when Wheezy reaches end of life in a couple months? One would hope so!
Re: A (niche) AntiX rival?
Is the MX community for Wheezy still available? I imagine it is not supported but maybe it would still give people in this situation more options. Or did I miss something?azrielle wrote:I installed the full version. Yes it is based on Wheezy, forgot to mention that. Which is also why the available additional apps is abysmal.

antiX-13.2 (released 05 November 2013) is Wheezy based and still available from Sourceforge.

Re: A (niche) AntiX rival?
I think there should be a warning for it and MX 14 after Debian stops providing any security updates for Wheezy in May...just to cover our butts, though we provide no guarantees anyway.

That's software from >4 years ago. Time to move on.
As has been written on this forum many times, if you structure your data correctly, it is not too difficult to upgrade.
And the security benefits alone should compel that anyway.
