Fresh install, missing trash can & logout menu buttons [Bug] [Solved]
Fresh install, missing trash can & logout menu buttons [Bug] [Solved]
Hello hello! So I've got my fresh installation of AntiX running well, but I've encountered two minor-ish problems.
I'm using LXDE...
The trash can is missing - when I go to desktop preferences, under Desktop Icons tab, the option "Show "Trash Can" folder on the desktop" is greyed out, like it cannot be checkmarked or uncheckmarked.
In Plank(my dock application), the trash can icon is also missing when I drag it down onto my bar. I must be missing something. I've got gvfs & gvfs-backends... I wonder what it could be.
I'm also missing the shutdown, reboot & sleep options from the Logout LXDE menu... The menu you get when you click the power icon in the right-hand corner of the screen.
It has "Lock Screen", "Logout", and "Cancel", but nothing else. I'd like to get shutdown, reboot & sleep into there.
These are basically my only two problems & I wouldn't even say they're very big problems, rather minor, but never the less I'd like to get them straightened out. Thanks.
Edit: I also can't apply some settings in the xfce4-power-manager which strikes me as odd. I don't think I'm missing anything, but I suppose a package could be missing.
System sleep mode: suspend/hibernate aren't selectable, the drop-down menus are basically frozen & under "Security", the "Lock screen when system is going for sleep" is also greyed out.
I figure I'm just missing some kind of package that helps xfce4-power-manager control my screen's power.
- I was missing pm-utils, I've got this part solved at least. Still haven't been able to find any relevant info for either of the first two though.

Re: Fresh install, missing trash can & logout menu buttons
you need gvfs and gfvs-backends for the trash can stuff.
I think you need lxsession for the logout/login stuff, but I'm not sure about that.

Re: Fresh install, missing trash can & logout menu buttons
I've got that though... and I can't seem to add reboot or shutdown to the LXDE logout menu no matter what I do. I've looked at every thread I can find on google..... :/ don't know what I'm doing wrong...dolphin_oracle wrote:you need gvfs and gfvs-backends for the trash can stuff.

Surely you must have done this stuff in your videos properly, right? Am I over-looking something??? Why is it doing this?
This is what I'm seeing: https://imgur.com/a/b25ip
Could it be something to do with consolekit or lxpolkit??? Are there any alternatives to lxsession-logout? Is there something I need to do with GVFS that I haven't done?
I've honestly never encountered such a tedious problem. https://imgur.com/a/DZrNG <-- you can see there should be a trash icon there, but its just not there. gvfsd & gvfs are "service not found".... so I have no idea how to mess with it.
It would also seem that I can't auto-mount USBs/SD-cards.... I suppose this is probably a related problem... I wonder what I've done wrong :/
I can mount manually & it works just fine thankfully... But I gotta figure this out!

as a matter of fact, no I haven't. I've never installed lxde before tonight. so got me. I can't make that stuff work either. I might mess with it and see what's what. You started from antiX-core, right? what display manager are you using?

I'm using LXDM, I think there must be something up with GVFS because my USBs/SD Cards won't auto-mount. Maybe I missed something... I don't know.
Is there perhaps some sort of pcmanfm --daemon sort of thing I'm missing? I tried that command but it doesn't work...

Re: Fresh install, missing trash can & logout menu buttons
Congratulations, you found a serious bug!
A badly packaged gvfs was the culprit.
New versions waiting to be moved to the repos.
To get hibernate etc in the Logout LXDE menu, install elogind

The debs are built, they are waiting to be added to the repo. (The guy who does this is probably at work and will, hopefully, do so when he gets back home)

Re: Fresh install, missing trash can & logout menu buttons
Ah I see. Is the guy who does this on eastern time? So like maybe in 5-6 hours?
How long do you think this bug has been there for? I remember trying AntiX-core when 17 first dropped & having the same issue.
I've documented "elogind" too, thanks a bunch for that, that login menu was really bugging me!
I spent all day yesterday trying to get the menu + trash-can fixed & never came across "elogind" anywhere, I'm very relieved to find out it wasn't just me for GVFS!
I used to be a Devuan user, but they are taking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long on 2.0 & when asked about it they got very rude on one post, I'm not "Makh", but still WOW.. https://imgur.com/a/PBIik
