In the previous thread I detailed my attempts at kernel 4.13 vs the stock 4.10.
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=43097&start=20
And it was suggested to update my rc1 to final.
I downloaded the antix 17 final 64 bit. k3b verified the md5 so the iso is good.
Burning it to a USB (using antix tools either the full live method or dd option) and burning to a DVD (burn verified by k3b) I can get to the live session. But when I install, and updating grub in MX 16, I end up with he green screen and errors, no boot, no terminal to log in.
I found an old antix 17 beta one disk, and it boots to live, and does produce a bootable installation, though the sound does not work (hey it is a beta 1 !).
So something is different in the final vs the beta and rc on THIS new hardware (Ryzen processor and Asus Prime 370 board).
To further test, I took the same USB stick, and booted with it plugged into my earlier super computer (AMD FX-8320 on an Asus Sabertooth board).
Live works well, so I installed to the test partition on that system (sda4), and perfectly usable install is created. After updating grub in MX-16,the antix 17 boots fast, and I updated, customized, configured, and added many programs.
So in short, the same USB (antix final 64 bit) produces a good install on the earlier hardware, but not on the newer Ryzen system. The beta 1 creates a bootable install, and the old RC1 produced a bootable install as well on the Ryzen system. (in fact that RC1 with the 4.10 kernel was the most stable, up for > 8 days with no crash or freezes) Recall MX-16.1 has a nice install on this same hardware, except it crashes every day or two back to a log in.
Only the antix 17 final is giving me headaches with no bootable install.
So there were some changed from rc1 to final, and I think DO wrote that they mostly affected the live session. Maybe I have some acpi problems that could be helped with come boot codes? Any ideas on this given that I am seeing boot errors on a green screen when trying to boot like :
Code: Select all
ACPI error needed [Integer/string/Buffer found [region] fff88041....
[...] waiting for /dev to be fully populated [5.772881] kvm : disabled by bios
and on a later try
ACPI exception : AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE could not execute arguments for [IOB2] (Region) 20160930/nsinit-412
Thanks
