antiX-stretch a3 available

#1 Post by anticapitalista »

Hopefully most of the bugs found in a2 have been fixed.

This version ships with:

* 4.10.5 kernel
* virtualbox guest modules (which seem to be broken).
* qt5ct for setting qt themes (problematic)
* User manager (needs testing, parts are almost certainly broken).
* apt sources includes onion.list for use with tor (not included)
* advert block hosts file updated
* apt-transport-https included
* new default wallpaper and login background
* icewm themes extended
* no qt4 apps wpasupplicant inbuilt to use qt5
* env-info (neofetch for old hardware!)
* wicd enabled but not added to taskbar since it adds c20MB RAM
* live-usb-maker has encryption option (work in progress and only for the cli version at the moment)

Known issues:

* Live boot in Virtualbox seems to break the consoles so on boot you do not see the final set of text, and on reboot/halt, you do not see the eject cd message. Just wait 5 secs or so and press Enter.
You may ask why include it if it is broken. To see if it is indeed broken for all and to see if someone out there knows why and has a fix.
* Qt5 theming seems to be pretty random/broken (upstream).
* IceWM theme switching /conky readout blurred as on a2. Can't find a fix for this. Just turn off conky in the menu and turn it back on again to remove the blur.

Get the iso or delta patch a2-a3 from here:

Is the inability to save wireless connection between reboots on an installed system still a known issue?

My wireless works on reboots (live and installed) using ceni and/or wicd. If i use ceni, I have to choose auto rather than hotplug

On one machine, Conky has a black background at every boot until you stop/start it. On another machine, the problem doesn't happen.

Ah, OK; I was using ceni, and must have missed that.

Conformed working as expected with wicd.

Is that on an older box? If so you can change the time in the control centre > Session->User Desktop Session->desktop-session.conf startup to more than the default 2.

If it is live, try adding to the boot cheat disable=lxc5 (c5 makes it 5 secs)

It's installed. In terms of what antiX will run on, I don't think it's ancient:

Changing the startup time to 5 secs made no difference.

I will do a fresh install on another laptop tomorrow to see if I can replicate the problem.

My D630 does the same thing. It is like conky is up before the video drivers are fully operational.

(Further information on the Conky black background.)

I did an install on a Thinkpad laptop with a similar specification to the D630. The problem doesn't happen on that machine.

I did an install on a second D630, which does exhibit the same problem.

Two other points regarding the D630 installs:

1) Both D630 machines are much slower to boot than is normal. After the last of the scrolling text messages, a blank screen with a static cursor appears for about 20s before booting continues. This doesn't happen with other hardware.

2) The 'No pinboard in use...' message that is shown on the first boot after install is being shown on every boot.

On my D 630, yes slow to boot up, the blank screen shows up, and I do believe Conky shows up before the background.
