The Debian flashplugin-nonfree installer has been broken for a while--the MX Flash manager is using a direct download and install script that we added to the MX version: "update-flashplugin-nonfree-direct"

I tested the Nvidia installer, and it worked as expected:

Code: Select all

chris@antix1:~
$ inxi -G
Graphics: Card: NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 210]
           Display Server: X.Org 1.19.2 drivers: nvidia (unloaded: modesetting,fbdev,vesa,nouveau)
           Resolution: 1280x1024@60.02hz
           GLX Renderer: GeForce 210/PCIe/SSE2 GLX Version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 340.102

I tested the Flash installer. Adobe Flash appeared to install, but the website I use for testing reported 'plugin needed'.

I removed Adobe Flash and installed Pepper Flash. My test website worked as expected.

I think the problem is that flash now needs a sym link in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
The flashplugin deb (from MX) doesn't provide this sym link

(You might need a reboot as well)

I thought the issue was that the Debian installer can't download anything to symlink to in the first place---at least I can't get it to do so. It appears that it pulls what version to get from an upstream Debian site, and that site is not being maintained:

Been playing playing it by ear myself and just downloading the libflashplayer.so from adobes site via the tar.gz offered. Manully cut and pasting as root in file manager of choice to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree

Then manually making my own symlinks to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and /etc/alternatives/symlink to to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so

Because I get the same errors stevo mentioned <my error says contact adobe on why I got a 404 error> and just decided to make my install work my way without using the operating system auto flash scripts.

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ cd /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree
harry@biker:/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree
$ ls
libflashplayer.so  pubkey.asc
harry@biker:/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree
$ cd
harry@biker:~
$ cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
harry@biker:/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
$ ls
flash-mozilla.so          gecko-mediaplayer-qt.so  gecko-mediaplayer.so
gecko-mediaplayer-dvx.so  gecko-mediaplayer-rm.so  gecko-mediaplayer-wmp.so
harry@biker:/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
$ cd
harry@biker:~
$ cd /etc/alternatives
harry@biker:/etc/alternatives
$ ls
<snip>
flash-mozilla.so
<snip>
Convuleted and involved I know. But it helps me know the inner workings of the file systems and makes me a better Linux user.

I am not expert enough to find out why the installers are giving me trouble. So I just jack up the vehicle manually and gitter done.

If the installers work for you. Fine and dandy.

I forgot to mention. when doing a dist upgrade. This error comes up during the flashplugin update process and the end result is /us/lib/flashplugin-nonfree folder is empty after dist-upgrade. Even though I had libflashplayer.so in there before the dist-upgrade.

So I fix it like I mentioned above.
