[SOLVED] snapshot run live/installed - no wireless network detected

#1 Post by asqwerth »

On my desktop, which has a wired connection, I made a VM installation of antiX16, installed MATE, and then made a snapshot of the thing. Wrote this onto USB stick with L-U-M.

I then installed it on my laptop, only to find that wicd detects no wireless networks at all (so there are no options to choose at all).

Is this because the snapshot was from a wired connection?

If it's a matter of somehow turning on the network detection, or configuring the network completely, how do I do it? What sort of information on my wireless network do I need and what commands can I run to obtain the information?

Thanks.

is this an antiX net installation or which iso did you use? and are you still using wicd as the connection manager?

No. It was the antiX-16.1-Full iso.

And yes to wicd, since it was what came with the iso. [oops, actually I'm not sure. It's whatever came as default ]

As a comparison, I had also previously installed an MX15 snapshot made on my desktop to the same laptop. That install didn't have a problem detecting networks, but MX doesn't use wicd; that much I know.

check in the wicd prefernces and make sure your wireless adapter is defined. sometimes the field is blank. In one of my antiX-net videos, I set it to wlan0.

That did the trick. Thanks.

Can't believe I didn't spot that.
