I'll try it tomorrow when I get back to work. I left my antix laptop there. I guess it might default to something if the value is simply present.

just having a value in XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP doesn't help. It has to be a supported value, and a value that triggers gtk compatibility. LXqt and KDE do not trigger the compatibility. gnome, XFCE, and LXDE do. ROX and Old also do not work.

also, with qt5, icewm still has a problem with titles in the window bars. fluxbox and jwm are OK.
