Post-antiX-16-Base_x64 Install Questions

I'm working on a base install, have restored /etc/apt/sources.list with smxi, and have installed LXDE and IceWM. Info from inxi is included below:

root@bt:~# inxi -bCrwNd -! 31

I ran the inxi tests and came up with the following files missing (please give me your recommendations to remedy, if applicable):

/proc/mdstat
/proc/scsi/scsi
/var/run/dmesg.boot

Also, a GDbus Error was encountered while booting to LXDE after installing dnsutils that I hadn't noticed prior to doing so. Here is a thumbnail --
GDbus-error-thumb.jpg
My priorities are performance and utility. I like music, so use ffmpeg (sometimes sox) and asunder; and, I have gotten so used to leafpad, lxterm and pcmanfm it is hard for me to get completely away from LXDE. I would eliminate lxde if I could get these to function without it.

Apparently, Openbox came with lxde, as it is now in the F1 Slim list. BTW, when I edit slim.conf to get rid of herbstluftwm, it returns. How to eliminate the source, please?

root@xx:~# apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

That's enough for now, I think.

I recommend disabling deb-multimedia unless you need to install something.

actually, the lx apps should function just fine without the full lxde desktop. leafpad is already installed on antiX (full, not sure about base, but its installable anyway). lxterminal is actually a candidate for inclusion in future antiX editions due to roxterm being abandoned, and it works fine on its own. pcmanfm also works on its own, but it may be missing some features you are used to because of the lack of gvfs in the default antiX install. In fact, pcmanfm is available in the file managers area of the metapackage-installer. LXDE is designed as individual components making a desktop suite. once upon a time, icewm was the default wm and not openbox.

I would remove herbsluftwm if you don't want it (apt-get remove herbsluftwm).

samineater, you might consider using spacefm file manager instead of pcmanfm

Gracias, lucky9, skidoo and dolphin_oracle -- will comment out deb-multimedia and look into other issues when I return from a trip to the big city in a couple days. You'll hear back from me then. Take care -- it's crazy out there!

Re: Post-antiX-16-Base_x64 -control center stuff not working

#6 Post by entropyfoe »

So far very fast. I ran a live CD, and after ten minutes pressed install, and ten minutes rebooted to the desk top.
I really like the inclusion of xmms. Also agree with the philosphy of firefox esr versions.

Several features are not working. iso was md5 verified, verified after burn, all OK.

For example in the antiX control center when I select configure system, it prompts me for root PW, which I enter, the screen flashes briefly like some error going by. But no window or error message. Same for Edit Config Files. Lots of the control center system stuff is not working. So I tried Manage Packages (synaptic), same behaviour.

I ran from terminal, get this error

Code: Select all

$ su root
Password:
root@X8:/home/music# synaptic

** (synaptic:4333): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.a11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files
Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.
Then Synaptic worked. I updated successfully.
Any ideas how to make control centre items work?

The machine is the signature machine.

Code: Select all

Most of the control center items use sudo now not su. So use your user password. This was changed in 15.

Thanks, that was easy !
I don't think this sudo stuff will ever seem right to me.
