...and problem solved!!
Good detective work.

Flash does work OK in IceWeasel, but I prefer Slimjet.
Now to install slimjet and try out flash videos.

Installed Slimjet-8.0.5.0 and watching some Youtube music videos. :))
Iceweasel works fine also.
Will try it later with the latest SJ-9.0.6 but now I know that it is possible.

Now to learn more about using antiX on the netbooks.
Perhaps install Xfce to see if I can retain the antiX minimalism,
while using a more familiar interface.

@bled,
The first workaround I found was to click the mouse wheel on the desktop and the cursor becomes live.

However, you might want to try this: http://forum.mepiscommunity.org/viewtop ... 20#p386143
It worked for me on an Acer Aspire One netbook. Now the cursor is active at boot.

If that doesn't solve that problem for you, please post the output of

Code: Select all

inxi -Fdolxz
in a Code box which will format and make the information more legible.

antiX-16-b2.1 is the 2nd iteration of the beta 2, there are probably other things that do not work as expected. This version is for testing and looking for reasons why certain things are broken. If you need a more finished version where things work as expected, you could try antiX-15-full or MX-15.

Regards.

Hi,

I've opened an issue for this on github.

Please provide some information for the developers to reproduce it, like what model of laptop and what version of eudev you were using, when you experienced the delay.

I'd like to point out that eudev is actively developed. For example, see this GSOC proposal which shows the developers are thinking about how to improve the software. Also check out the commit log.

It's important that alternatives to systemd, like eudev and consolekit2, continue to gain traction. It keeps the developers motivated to keep working on them, to ensure they work with new hardware and desktop environments.

Hopefully you can resolve the issue, and antiX can switch back to eudev, in time for the antiX 16 final release.

I cannot get a root terminal. Nor can I get metapackage-installer to open, even from run....

I suspect I missed something. But the menu entry does not do anything except bring up a request for the root password. When that's given it closes along with a screen 'jiggle'. Then nothing.

Above is from an installation in VirtualBox.

lucky9 - there have been some changes - all apps open with user password - not root password.

So, for example, when prompted for password to open metapackage-installer, type in your user one.

Root password is basically used in terminal with su (not sudo)

antiX with runit - lean and mean.

The password thing (know it from trying antiX previously) is a curiosity that has me thinking it''s hard-wired and rusted-in, so to speak.

I added disk manager and Thunar to help me get started, and some Personal Menu links for convenience, after watching the associated video. I shall read Help and keep exploring. There seem to be many repositories one could enable. Flash sites are perhaps my next query to read up on.

Could one liken antiX, by analogy, to a drivable chassis, to which one adds components to produce a F1 racecar, all-terrain explorer or family sedan? Many thanks for so much work. Mick
