So the iceweasel update will be a dummy/transitional package?
That's my understanding. ultimately that's up to the debian packagers.

That's cool by me...I use the esr on Windows and when ever possible in linux.

esr has a more stable interface, less hunting around when Mozilla moves things around like the book mark management.

Could testers play around with a dpi cheat running live on real hardware.

xorg is supposed to auto-detect an appropriate dpi setting for the monitor.
Does it actualy do this?
Particularly on new monitors or new laptops.

Also does the dpi= cheat work? eg dpi=120

Post the output of

Code: Select all

xdpyinfo | grep -B 2 resolution
Also to see the time boot to desktop, useful is

Code: Select all

time-x-start

Every 7th firefox release is a ESR version, with FF 46 having just been released yesterday I think the ESR version will probably soon jump from 38.x to 45.x.
I'm not sure what ESR package will be available in the repos when it makes the jump from 38.x to 45.x, will it be 'iceweasel 45.x' or 'firefox 45.x', they've stopped building newer version iceweasel packages at mozilla.debian.net.
Oops! Never mind.

Anyone else have a problem finding the cursor? Neither wireless nor built-in.
Booting on Acer Aspire One. Tried my choice Spaceman-Icewm but no cursor.
Tried booting with all defaults except kbd=es, still no cursor?

Boots OK, looks OK, but can't find the cursor.
Ctrl-Esc > Open a terminal: ls, ctrl-l, esc, and finally it starts working.

I have a partition on the desktop to install to see how that goes.

Cursor OK on the desktop.
On the Acer Aspire One netbook, need to Ctrl-Esc or right clic (even though not visible)
then open a terminal and normally the mouse starts working. With default as well as Space-Icewm.

Installing on the desktop:
1. To run the installer from the menu, would not accept password root nor toor but only demo.
2. installing sda7
3. and done! Quickly!

Very nice for a beta2.

password is demo. you can not log in as root.

if you want xfce, use mx. that's what its there for.

shouting how useless the desktops are is not winning you any points.

The "root" password isn't used at all in the beta, only "demo".
