antiX-15-beta3 available

#1 Post by anticapitalista »

Get it here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/antix- ... antiX-14R/

Many bug fixes from beta1.

* Default is now light look. F6 at boot menu to select dark.
* antiX 4.0.0 kernel
* simplified menu layout suggested by SamK
* new menu-editor by SamK
* timed wallpaper bug fix
* built using devuan debootstrap
* new iso-snapshot application - heavily based on mx-snapshot
* more options added to antiX control centre. (Probably overkill)
* many more I have forgotten about.

An antiX-15-beta3-core version for both 32 and 64 bit. This uses sysvinit and is set up to block systemd.

antiX with runit - lean and mean.

Will there be an upgrade script from previous version? (I forget which can be upgraded and which can't, because of, say, new kernel)

LOL. Now he's got the right image in the thumbnail on the main page, but if you click it it shows the MX desktop.

Ben a LONG time since I had a Dell notebook to hack with so I loaded it with Antix-15 bets. Jeez it really rocks!

Glad I don't use Filezilla.....or Windows.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

I see the results of this in my cleanup work every day. I actually feel sorry for Windows users... all but the most informed and savvy don't have a chance.

Before I moved to Linux, I was an aficionado of "freeware" -- cost free software that was freely available and that you could download and install with confidence. See Irfanview and CCleaner. Today, even the stock CCleaner installer has an undesirable payload. And unless you're very very careful, and do your homework, and stay on top of the latest news in the freeware realm, even someone like myself can get bit. Two of the most recent examples of just that are ImgBurn and CDBurnerXP. I installed them in Windows machines I was setting up for years, and never gave it a second thought... until a year or two ago when the both started loading up browser hijackers and toolbars and such.

At least us Linuxers don't have to deal with that kind of nonsense. From the article:

"The only saving grace is that thus far I can only see that this is tied to Windows binaries on SourceForge, leaving Linux and Mac OS X safe—for now."

Below is a post I just put over on the Antix forums. This action means one less place I can go to get isos in particular, so it is impacting Linux users. They have canned the entire Sourceforge Mirror on principle:
This whole thing is escalating around here. My ISP (Internode) have decided to drop their "free from download quota" Sourceforge Mirror all together (Linux stuff included). They refuse to offer a service to their customers that encourages the use of malware/adware and download content hijacking of individual projects.

There may only be Windows developers affected thus far but there are some pretty important Windows apps involved here.

Personally I think it is a matter of principle - and I would be much happier if one of my favorite distros had nothing to do with a site that has slipped so far into the "scumbag" abyss!
