FAT12 filesystem on external medium

#1 Post by eemaestro » Fri Jan 08, 2016 12:40 am

MEPIS12 64 bit wheezy

I am going to have to copy some .ogg files from my hard drive (ext4) to a microSD card via USB that is formatted as a FAT12 filesystem. I haven't tried this kind of medium before. So am wondering if it is going to work. Is there anything special to do other than just connect the card to a USB port and copy them from the command line?

hello eemaestro
(no answer at all was the correct directive for most new flash is fat32.
from a plug and play perspective plus drag and drop between file manager windows perspective guy -
nothing. except maybe delete any product highlighting foldersfiles that the manufacturer of the flash memory may have put there for you to delete, errrrr, see. )
[Your SD] fat12?predates microSD cards? manufacturers expectation of use is apparently defined by that fat12. for Your case seems not appropriate.

format to fat32.

how many floppydisks did you hafta trade for that sd.micro?
now we must yield to cloud transfer practice.

edit:C(hange plug and play to auto mount)

You should be able to use Dolphin. Is there a reason for FAT 12? If not then I'd reformat as FAT 32 or NTFS.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Try different file systems, run sudo hdparm -t /dev/sdb and compare.
MX-14 on a Via Eden 1GHz CPU thin client, 3GB RAM, Via VX800 chipset, Via Chrome9 HC GPU, 32GB M.2 SSD;
btrfs with @ and @home subvolumes for MX-14;
added @antiX and @antiXhome subvolumes and copied antix 13.1 base into them, adjusting Grub from MX-14.
