Spelling counts (sometimes) MEPIS 12

#1 Post by eemaestro » Wed Dec 16, 2015 11:46 am

Was searching the wiki for a way to add

https://deb.opera.com/opera-developer/ stable non-free

to my repository list file
http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Repo

However, looks as if the file ought have two s's:

Code: Select all

$ls /etc/apt/source.list
ls: cannot access /etc/apt/source.list: No such file or directory
$ ls  /etc/apt/sou*
/etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.bk2
/etc/apt/sources.list.bk1 /etc/apt/sources.list.bk3

/etc/apt/sources.list.d:
google-earth.list
I tried to fix it, but my regular username/password didn't work at this website. So I couldn't.

EDIT: Oh, GOOD, I found the 2nd hypertext link (that is spelled correctly). Now I found the good stuff.......maybe I can figure out this repo. update stuff.

I have been moving everything over from the Mepis Wiki to the MX/antiX Wiki that still has relevance, so I suppose these should come over as well...
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

Thanks, kmathern!

Back to my task....
I was trying to add the repo.

Code: Select all

https://deb.opera.com/opera-developer/ stable non-free
that richb recommended in the Opera 34. thread.
by following the directions at http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php? ... t_MEPIS_12
under the heading Read these notes. I got to the point of eliminating the fragment files, and moved
the subdirectory apt/sources.list.d to OLD_sources.list.d when nature called and I had to take a bathroom break. While taking my break, I remembered the old adage, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke." And decided to abort my mission to try to update from the old Opera to the new Opera because my existing version displays properly some web pages that Firefox doesn't. And I love it.
So there' s really no reason for me to upgrade it. So I aborted my mission, and restored the original subdirectory apt/sources.list.d
and closed synaptic.

As you can see,

Code: Select all

# apt-get update
E: The method driver /usr/lib/apt/methods/https could not be found.
something evidently is no longer valid/copasetic. Any ideas ?

Change the 'https' to just 'http'

Code: Select all

deb http://deb.opera.com/opera-developer/ stable non-free

Thank you for your suggestions, kmathern.

I changed that https to http in /etc/apt/sources.list, after first backing up the file.
After running

Code: Select all

#apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
, APT got further
into the process before spewing out the warnings I appended below.

Code: Select all
