RAM Utilisation :- Memory optimal using for Graphics and Media Creation

The problem is when using GIMP and specifically for rendering jobs and filters like gmic or resynthesizer etc which use high memory, i noticed although i have 3.36 GiB ram but gimp utilizing 1.8 or 2 Gb of ram and Swap taking up 500 to 700 Mb data where still 1.5 Gb of ram is still available.
Due to this I noticed slowness in other system applications running at the time like Firefox is not responding, Thunar freezing and Music playing on Clementine freezes and plays in jerk.

I require your help and guide how to utilize RAM to its full potential so the swap is not used and system runs smoothly.
I have RAM but still swap is used, any solution?

System Specification:-
System: Kernel: 4.15.0-1-amd64 x86_64 bits: 64 Desktop: Xfce 4.12.3
Distro: MX-17.1_x64 Horizon March 14, 2018
CPU: Quad Core model: AMD FX-4300 cache: 2048 KiB
Speed: 1620 MHz min/max: 1400/3800 MHz Core speeds (MHz)
Graphics: AMD RS780L [Radeon 3000] driver: radeon
OpenGL: renderer: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS780

Memory: 3.36 GiB
Swap : 2 GiB

To cure this problem fully the only answer is to get more RAM.
You could make gimp run better by reducing swappiness but that would make the responsiveness of the other programs even worse.
If you cannot get more RAM, your best course would be to reduce swappiness and run gimp alone, without any other inessential processes.

Here i am only running gimp with Thunar and Mozila firefox because i need an image from the web. I am only adding some resynthesizer plugin
Please see screen shots in gimp. but its not resynthesizer problem, but any filter thats require some memory, i find same problem like gmic or render filters.

In screenshot 1 please see memory and swap and same on htop in screen shot 2.

The problem is that Firefox is the greatest culprit in being a RAM hog. When I first boot up MX, RAM usage is 300+ to 400MB. Open Firefox and you practically double RAM consumption.

You may have to open a lighter browser when you do GIMP work, like palemoon.

Try to maximize your free RAM by closing Firefox down when doing those things in GIMP. That will free up at least a few hundred MB, probably more.

I don't know of any solution beyond what I have already suggested - sorry.
Anybody else have any ideas?

set the vmswapiness to zero and see how the performance is.

Swapping can be slow, and give that jerky user interface.

Until all RAM is used, you will not know if there is enough for your desired applications. Having over a gig free sounds like all the swap can be put into RAM.

have RAM but still swap is used, any solution?
only solution is add more ram, no tweaks can beats more ram.
swap is used because run out of memory, even u think there is still some, data on memory is move n park at swap.
since u r using intensive gimp, etc, etc, adding more ram will be more beneficial.
the amount of ram u have is insufficient, as for firefox, addon ublock to block adverts.

Here i came across one article but its written for Ubuntu and mint. Will commands mention here is also applicable to MX?
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/3
(The article no1 is about swappiness & Improve usage of the system memory (RAM))

If its not meant for mx then any help like this please.

i've 8gb ram and never seen swap have been use.
only one time fully load my Dual Core E5400 to the max.
cpu can't handle the load, 2mb is use on 2gb swap.
u can set swappiness=10 and vfs_cache_pressure=50, minimize swap.
