Rules of these forums

#1 Post by richb »

Do not post topics that relate to different genders, race, color, politics or religion. Discussion of these topics can cause problems and quickly degenerate into arguments. This applies to minors (this includes nudity and sex), as well. Do not use swear words, whether directly or masked with other characters. If you have a problem with a mod or another community member here, first try to resolve it privately (through pm's or emails) yourself and if that doesn't work then email us at forumadmin@mxlinux.org to discuss it. Keep personal problems off the forums. Let's try to keep peace among the community and for visitors. Before submitting a post, pause and consider KNIT. Is the post Kind. Necessary, Informed, True.

Certain usernames will not be allowed. If a user registers with a questionable username, action will be taken. Examples are usernames that have profanity, sexual references or product references. This is not an exclusive list and it will be the discretion of the forum administrators what will be allowed. The action taken will be to ask the user to request a different username. If approved the administrator will implement the change. If the user refuses they will be banned from the Forum.

When a user has three warning for Rules violations, they will be banned for a period of 7 days. After that period the user will be reinstated automatically. Another warning after being reinstated will trigger a permanent ban.
The Rules will be interpreted by the Moderators and Administrators in specific cases. They are not all-inclusive and the Forum Staff has the right to moderate posts with discretion in all cases and also have the discretion to Ban users immediately.

No spam on this or any other forums please! If you post advertisements on these forums, your account may be deleted.

Solicitations for donations to any organizations regardless of their intentions or structure, other than relating to MX, are not allowed.

Advice on installing or debugging digital forensics and penetration testing software will not be given on this Forum, as it lies outside our mission. If members wish to install or debug such software they should contact the developer or pose their questions in a web forum dedicated to that purpose, and they will be directed to do so.

Do not copy and paste entire or even up to half of someone else's words or articles into posts. Post only a few sentences or a paragraph and make sure to include a link back to original words or article. Otherwise it's copyright infringement.

In line with this, when asking help, do not post links to sites where one can download commercially licensed and / or copyright protected material that will not be legally obtained. Any such posts will be removed without notice, and removal will not be up for discussion. Repeated postings of such will result in a warning.

Help requests must include your QSI, aka Quick System Info, using code tags, </> found at the top of the post. Run the QSI program found in the main menu or in MX Tools. antiX users may run inxi -Fxxxrza in a terminal. People helping may request other data as well, please comply. You can then attach that requested info to the post.

Do not unnecessarily post images or screenshots of text. Copy and paste the text in your post. Text can be searched, images cannot. An exception would be pictures of boot error messages, menus or screens.

Do not reply to others' existing topics to ask for help nor post multiple issues in one topic. Start a new topic for each issue. This helps to avoid confusion and chaos.

Do not reply to or "bump" old topics unless you have something useful to contribute. Do not unnecessarily bump your own topics. Wait at least 24 hours for a reply.

When a solution is found to a help request mark your topic as "solved" by clicking the check symbol at the top right of the post providing the solution. This will add [Solved] to the post title and will make it easier for others who are searching for a solution to the same issue.

You can talk about other distros or OS's here (talk or discuss, not bash for any reason), but no MX bashing. You can PM one of the developers of MX if you just want to say you dislike or hate MX . I'm not saying that you can't say you don't like something about MX but know that you can PM one of the developers to state what you don't like or would like improved or added.

Any background image or other artwork submissions must include copyright information and explicit permission of the image's original creator to use the image. This includes a direct post of the image or links to a compiled image archive.

Stay relevant and on topic when posting. Posts that are not relevant to the topic waste everyone's time.

Images added to post via hot links from other websites will be limited to a 640 x 620 pixel size as they appear in the Forum post. Large images take up large areas of the post and thread space, are distracting and impede the flow of the thread. You can post the link to the full image without the [img] tags. You can also choose the "Large" image option if logged in. If not logged in and the image is a public image, add the letter l to the end of the imgur link (before the '.jpg').
Animated images, such as gifs, shall be no larger than 120 x 120 pixels.
