Seeing all the problems Dieselrider had here: http://forum.mepiscommunity.org/viewtop ... 18&t=34466 installing his Brother printer, I've created a alias that will install a Brother printer using their linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1 installer script.

The command in the alias downloads, extracts and runs the linux-brprinter-installer-2.0.0-1 installer.

First create the BrotherPrinterInstall alias

No, this is right. My question was more: the next person that has a problem with a Brother printer, how will s/he even know to look here?

Maybe we need a link on the Wiki page, then none of us has to remember where this particular post is.

Before adding it to the wiki I'd like some confirmation that it actually works.

I don't own a Brother printer, I did a sample run using Dieselrider's printer model and it looks like it goes thru all the necessary steps, but I can't verify that it actually works.

I think it could be tested in a M11, M12 or MX-14 Live session.

I have a Brother HL4040CN printer that is networked. My setup is non-standard in that it uses a fixed IP, rather than the proprietary method that Brother uses.

On a virgin MX install, I ran the script. It completed, and checking in system-config-printer showed the printer installed as a USB device. This is exactly what happens if I manually install the debs from Brother. I then changed the 'Device URI' to match the correct address, and a test page printed successfully. Again, this is what I have to do with my normal install routine.

From my slightly unusual test, I would judge this script to work properly, and to be worthy of inclusion in MX-14 in some way.
